Because I have lived

a life of hours without you,

slept too many nights

without your warmth beside me,

the emptiness of not-you

fills with a creeping madness.

Between us tonight

a vast universe of space and time

stretches into unbearable silence.

The night is an oppressive blanket

stifling all sound.

My heart howls like a shaggy wolf

for your moon

but the sky remains starless and black.

I hear doors slam in empty hallways

and laughter echoing on blind walls.

This is a solitude

beyond my understanding.

I did not expect to be here

and don’t remember how I came.

I have lost the key

that opens the door

to home.
