The everyday flappers make quite an ethereal image. I hope the imagery works for the neighbourhood.
Well it does and it doesn’t Philippa – pigeons are ubiquitous in that neighborhood and I understand the visual metaphor used – however – the aesthetic quality of the pigeons are somewhat incongruous to the gritty ambiance of the location – if you see what I mean…
Now I see they are doves! Beautiful
Pigeons, pigeons…
(Poorly the words come out from our strange lips
we write them down in so many mistakes
the natives of the English language sigh
and think oh please, spell check, for heaven’s sakes.)
Love the poem Ina – you have one for every occasion – amazing poet you are. The pigeon is down there in the street with the humble sparrow. The dove has been elevated through literature and symbolism – Noah’s Ark – Peace – Love etc
I don’t see
that they are different:
doves and pigeons;
in the light of dawn
they are all
heaven sent to me.
My guess is pigeons
are on their way
home to sleep in late,
after painting the town red
the night before,
while doves need to
take their white feathers
to the cleaners
early in the morning.
you obviously know your birds.
pigeons shit on heads
while doves coo halos
around the bald spots
of unbelievers…

I enjoy the patterns and the movement in this one a lot. As well as perception of a pigeon as a symbol.
Glad you enjoyed this one Ese. Me old mum used to say that if a pigeon pooped on your head it was a symbol of good luck – sadly this doesn’t seem to be true for the marginalized masses who share this intersection with the pigeons…
