The second in artratcafe CAFÉ’s new series Playing With Your Food presents Prudence Emma Staite from Gloucestershire, England. Prudence is a contemporary artist who works almost entirely in chocolate, although as you see above she also works in other edible mediums. Prudence wants people to experience her art with all of their senses. She creates jewelry, paintings, sculpture, games and even entire rooms from chocolate –but the sweet stuff isn’t her only favorite medium - She also made sculptures of the Colosseum, Spanish Steps and Pope Benedict XVI using enough pizza dough to make 500 pizzas for an exhibit at the Museum of London.

Prudence has also recreated famous art works using Smarties. This is a recreation of Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Munroe.
And this is her Smarties recreation of Seurat’s Bathers at Asnieres.
Prudence also used Smarties as her medium in this recreation of Banksy’s Clean Streets Maid graffiti.
Again, using chocolate, Prudence expresses her understanding of bicycle technology in this chocolate sculpture.
This is sweet and certainly food for thought. It reminds us that anything can be used as a medium for expression. Prudence’s use of everyday edibles to express her creativity is inspiring and opens us up to outside-the-chocolate box thinking. What will you do with all of those left over goodies from Christmas?

Food for thought indeed! The big hits for me are the re-creations in smarties and the bicycle tech sculpture. Not sure whether full-body choc sculptures really work. The Christmas leftovers are safe from the melting pot and scalpel; I have other plans… Pizza dough works well for the Colosseum – the surfaces and shapes seem to have lots of character.

I like the chocolate chaise lounge – one can nibble while they relax. Of course the problem for me would be that I wouldn’t have any furniture then.

This artist has a wonderful approach towards the art created as well as the people who enjoy it. Why not to stimulate other ways of perception than just one’s vision – especially when there’s such a wide range of possibilities to do that?! Her attention to the detail is…fascinating – in every single photo above.

My daughter has moved to Vancouver for dance…and for life. She sounds happy…so, I need to buck up and feel happier for her. Don’t I? Seeing this this morning causes me to dream that she will see marvelous things and that she will grow and love and live. Thank you for showing me different points of view.
Your daughter will love the dance scene in this city, it is alive and thriving. Of course you will miss her but also feel happy for her new adventures – she has a solid and creative foundation in you and this will always be her guide.
